When choosing an IP softphone headset the most important consideration is whether you will be using the headset for your computer only, or whether you also have a fixed deskphone option? Many VoIP softphone users will have this option for outside the office, whether working from home or on the road, but they have a desk phone too when they are physically there.
If it’s just for the computer then you only need to get a IP softphone headset that has been optimised for voice over internet protocol (VoIP). These headsets offer features like wideband audio, noise cancelling, and even have their own PC applications that allow users to customise the audio of the headset. They are purpose built for an IP softphone application and the sound quality is superb.
If you’re sharing the headset between the softphone and deskphone then you’re better looking at either a office wireless headset, or a cheaper corded headset, with combined desk phone and PC (USB) connectivity. They will cost more becasue they offer unified communications, or the ability to work with more than one device. However, it’s cheaper than having to buy a good IP soft phone headset as well as a desk phone headset also.
These UC devices offer premium wideband and narrow band audio to sound brilliant for either application. The biggest question we’re asked is, “Why shouldn’t I just buy a cheap PC headset.” The answer is becasue the sound quality is crap and if you’re using a VoIP sfotphone for office calls you want the same quality you experience on a desk phone. You get what you pay for and these cheap PC headsets have not been optimised for VoIP conversations.
