Like I’ve said before we don’t use every headset every day. We’re experts but not fanatical like IKEA like product testers that try something a million times before putting it in store. There are a couple of products that I have used extensively and the Sennheiser DW Pro 1 PHONE Wireless Headset (DW20PH) is one – sort of. You see the new Pro 1 for phone only is exactly the same as the normal Pro 1 I used however it doesn’t connect to your PC as well (hence the name PH to denote just phone).
I thought the DW Pro 1 was one of the best headsets I have ever used. It’s the sort of headset that everyone would love if they could afford it. And that was the only shortcoming of this wireless headset. Then in a brilliant epiphany Sennheiser realised that many people just needed it for phone so they stripped a little bit of electronics out and presto – the Sennheiser DW Pro 1 phone only headset was born. The best news is you get a phenomenal headset that only does what many customers need at a substantially reduced price point.
So why was I such a fan of this particular headset? That’s easy. Industry leading noise cancelling, longest wireless range, ultra stylistic design, comfort, industry leading talk time, rapid recharge and superb sound quality. Everyone of those attributes are also on the cheaper DW Pro 1 phone wireless headset model but cheaper!
Realistically about 90% of our customers don’t require unified communications (UC) which is where your wireless headset will also work with other devices like computers and mobile phones. The industry keeps telling us that the UC tsunami is coming but from where we stand, landfall is still a long way off for most consumers. Do you use Skype, Web conferencing or soft phones at work? Probably not unless you work for a very advanced company. And let’s face it, how many Australian small to medium businesses actually fit that bill.
So the Sennheiser DW Pro 1 PHONE wireless headset (DW20PH) now fills a very popular niche and price point to round out the Sennheiser range. If you buy either the Pro 1, the DW Office or the Pro 2 in the phone only variants you know you’re getting a bargain and unsurpassed quality. I should know becasue I used one for over a year for what felt like every waking moment of the day without the slightest complaint or suggestion to improve it (complaints about the work but not the headset that is).
